Thursday 12/27/07

Tonight I'm going to see one of my favorite bands: Ajar (www.myspace.com/ajarrocks). I'm wearing one of their t-shirts and brown pants from Steve & Barry's. My shoes are black Vans. Gotta protect my feet when I'll be standing for hours at the club!

Monday 12/24/07

I got this sweater on Saturday at Aeropostale. It's a cashmere sweater marked down from $98 to $19.

I got a nice compliment on Saturday. Our waitress at Olive Garden told me that my eyes matched my blue shirt perfectly. In certain lighting, and depending on what I'm wearing, my eyes can look very blue. Other times they are almost green.

The cow is a gift for my Aunt Lisa who hosted a Christmas dinner yesterday afternoon. The ornament is a gift from my sister. Happy Christmas Eve!

Saturday 12/22/07

Quick blog today...going Christmas shopping with my sister, so I dressed more for comfort. Victoria's Secret crew neck tee (love those shirts - I own a bunch of them) and olive green pants from Bitten at Steve & Barrys. My favorite purse/messenger bag and black Vans sneakers. I'm ready for a shopping marathon!

VS happens to have their tees on sale right now! $12.50 at www.victoriassecret.com.

Friday 12/21/07

Today I decided to dress up a boring black & grey outfit with my new blue scarf. Is it wrong to wear such a long scarf in the office? Probably, I don't know. But it's so close to the holidays that no one is around to see it.

This statue is known as "the naked girl statue" on campus. A friend of mine named her "Jane." Someone gave her a Christmas sweater!

Thursday 12/20/07

Today I'm wearing my new brown pants from Steve & Barry's (on sale for $8.98). My sister gave me a gift card for Christmas, so I wanted to get them while they were on sale. They're one size bigger than my green ones, so I should have worn a belt. Now I'll be pulling my pants up all day. Also in the top picture, you can kind of see the new necklace that my sister got me for Christmas. She's an awesome sister, right? The picture of my shoes doesn't really do them justice, I think. I got them for $19.99 at Payless, and they were inspired by tap shoes. Cute and comfortable!

My outfit is kind of boring today, so I thought I would post pictures of my cubicle decorations. They're a little dark because we use "task lighting" in the office, and I didn't want the others to see camera flashes.

This is my Rocco Deluca poster. A friend gave it to me as a wedding gift. She knows how much I love music. I have this sitting on my desk, leaning against the cube wall because I didn't get anything to hang it yet. It will probably stay like that for years.

At one of my previous jobs, I had the nickname "Shortcake." This doll reminds me of the supervisor who gave me that nickname.

These are my Rudolph figures. My mom gave me Bumble two years ago, and he's been a popular guy around the office. People love to walk by and give him a tap, because he's a bobble head. Yukon Cornelius (on the left) is a new edition. I got him this year at CVS. He's not a bobble head, but he's still cute. Rudolph in the middle was given to me this morning by my cube mate.

This was my first office plant. My gram bought this african violet years ago. It hasn't bloomed yet. We don't have windows in our offices. Her name is Petunia.

This is my bonzai ficus. His name is Pauly. If I would have realized when I bought him that he had to be pruned because he was in stone, I might not have bought him. I hate pruning him, because I wish he could grow.

The plant on the right is an ivy named Harley. She likes the light. There's a stuffed cat that looks like my cat Pepe, a wedding photo, and a fall flower basket. The flowers are there to block the air from the overhead vent from blowing onto the thermostat on the wall to the left. If the air blows on the thermostat, the heat will run constantly.

This isn't really my decoration, but it's the office Christmas tree. I'm told we used to have a big tree, a holiday party, and a gift exchange, but we don't do that anymore. We haven't in the three years that I've been here.

I have more, but we'll save that for another day.

Pseudo-Shopping Trip

Today I was really in the mood to shop, but I'm broke until payday. I decided to leave my wallet in the car and just try on some clothes for fun. I was looking for a particular style to try, just to see how it looked on me. This was the result:

I remember trying on a shirt very similar to this one when they were full price at Bon-Ton. This one is on sale for $4.99.

Holy cleavage! This one was also on sale for $4.99.

I didn't realize until I tried this one on that it was the same as the brown one. I think this shirt makes me look pregnant.

I'm not sure what the price was on this maroon shirt/dress. It was nice, though.

I got stuck in this dress! It said size 12. I think it was a girl's size 12, though! (See my "I'm stuck in this dress" pout?) It was brown with pink and white polka dots.

I fell in love with these shoes at Payless. On sale for $13.99.

Wednesday 12/19/07

There are no students on campus this week, so we can dress casual every day. I love jeans and sneakers, but I also get tired of wearing them every day. This was my outfit this morning: just your basic white button shirt and blue jeans. I should get darker jeans for work. After I took this picture, I looked at it and thought, "It needs something." So I added my favorite velvet jacket:

Belive it or not, I got this jacket for $3 at K-Mart. My sister is my good luck charm when I'm shopping. She spotted the jacket on a clearance rack as we were walking through the store. Seriously, she should charge for her services or something. I owe so many good articles of clothing to her eagle eye.

My jeans are L.E.I. They are the only jeans that I've found that are short enough for me. Other jeans are at least 5" too long. They are pretty reasonably priced for jeans (usually no more than $25 a pair).

I don't know how short women find jeans that fit. I'm 5'2", which is not that uncommon, but it's nearly impossible to find pants that fit. I actually prefer to buy slacks, because I can cut them and use hem tape to hem them to a good length.

While I'm on the topic of pants, I'll bring up something I've been thinking about for a long time...why can't women have waist sizes for pants like men do? Size "5" means nothing to me. The fit varies so much depending on the brand that I usually have to just pick a number and see how far away it is from a proper fit. It's amazing how I can fit in a size 3 in one brand, and I have to squeeze into a 9 for another brand. This is not helping!

I don't think women are so sensitive about their size that they wouldn't shop for pants that had a waist size. I remember once buying a pair of Levi's shorts that had a waist size. I was so happy to be able to find the right size! That was several years ago, and I haven't seen anything like that since. I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way on this matter. Can't we do something about this? I'm so jealous of my husband, who can find the perfect pair of jeans based on waist and inseam measurements.

Tuesday 12/18/07

Today I'm wearing my "bumble bee" sweater. I got it from Steve & Barry's for only $8.98! Also, not pictured above, I'm wearing my long butterfly necklace from Steve & Barry's. That's my new favorite store. In the picture my hair is down, but I'm wearing my hair pulled back.

I'm upset today because it seems that someone stole my dictionary at work! Who steals a dictionary from someone's desk? I'm not discounting the fact that I could have moved it to another location, so I'm still looking for it.

Today's excuse to be happy: We're going out for lunch with the staff and some women who retired earlier this year. It'll be nice to catch up with the girls! We're going to a new place that opened recently, and extended lunches are always nice!

Oh never mind, I found my dictionary. :P
